On ‘For the World’ (2016) Martin Hoybye explores ‘run-and-gun’ recording sessions at Aabyroad with producer Dennis Ahlgren, aiming to unlock the immediate potential of each song while letting it breathe, rather than trying to fit it into a mold or preconceived ideas about genre or form.
The playfully produced approach we hear on ‘For the World’ subsequently earned Hoybye a Danish Music Award nomination for ‘Songwriter of the Year’.
Bonus info: The album corresponds with a novel (in Danish) called For alt i verden released simultaneously – www.foraltiverden.dk

It’s not hard to laugh
When you’re not the only one
It’s not hard to shine
When you’re walking in the sun
But sometimes it’s not easy
You just want to close your eyes
And pray your soul, soul to keep
Pray your soul to keep
Cause you’re in way too deep, way too deep
Living Life Asleep
It’s not hard to see
When your steps on the path are always lit up
It’s not hard to be
When your piece in the puzzle seems to fit
But sometimes it’s not easy
You try not to break down and cry
While you pray your soul, soul to keep
Pray your soul to keep
Cause you’re in way too deep, way too deep
Living Life Asleep
Sometimes all you want to do
is to pop a pill or two
and party all night long
You know that there has got to be a way
You will see the light someday
But for now you just tag along
it’s the same old, sad song
Pray your soul, soul to keep
Pray your soul to keep,
cause you’re in way too deep
While you pray your soul, soul to keep
Pray your soul to keep
Cause you’re in way too deep, way too deep
You pray your soul, pray your soul
Pray your soul, pray your
Pray your soul to keep
Pray your soul to keep
Living Life
Living Life Asleep
Living Life Asleep
Growing up in this hemisphere
You learn how to dive into shallow water
Keep up the good work and raise your
Attention junkie sons and daughters
And in all of this shopping for our perfect selves
We're leaving all the lessons still waiting on the shelf
Life is a Postcard from Hollywood
Yeah, from Hollywood, you know
Life is just a Postcard from Hollywood
Don't you think it is time we break free
I don't know about you, but I miss plain old you and me
I threw my hiking boots in the trunk
'cause I really wanted to get som fresh air
Funny how I like to step
On all the things that I really treasure
I keep on looking but it's hard to find
Some kind of lasting peace of mind
Life is a Postcard from Hollywood
Yeah, from Hollywood, you know
Life is just a Postcard from Hollywood
Don't you think it is time we break free
I don't know about you, but I miss plain old - me
Tonight when all the world's asleep
I'll chase the rainbow in a dream
And I'll find peace of mind somewhere
Maybe wind up living there, wind up living there
Life is a Postcard from Hollywood
Yeah, from Hollywood, you know
Life is just a Postcard from Hollywood
Don't you think it is time we break free
I don't know about you, but I miss plain old you and me
I need some more you and me
Life is a Postcard from Hollywood
Postcard from Hollywood
It's either time you broke loose
Or time I set you free
Time to call it a truce
Permanently
Oh, I don't believe we'll be able to fix this
With a band-aid and a kiss
Speeding down separate roads
Growing out of this
It's either bad that we break up
Or the only sensible thing
No one way to look at it
No one thorn on the rose that won't sting
Oh. I don't believe this is something
I'll be able to one day miss
Tearing down separate roads
Growing out of this
Never even saw it coming
Never even saw it coming
Search your mind and you will find
We grew of this, out of this
I could talk from here to Monday
But I know you've heard it all a million times before
We could do some more using and abusing
And try to come back for some more
But there's really no point in keeping on
Insisting we insist
When we've been going warp speed left and right
Growing out of this
Never even saw it coming
Never even saw it coming
Search your mind and you will find
We grew of this, out of this
Never even saw it coming
Never even saw it coming
Never even saw it coming
Never even saw it coming
Needless to say
You needed me a little less
than I need you
And it's pointless, babe,
to try to work out
Who the blame is pointing to
I'm caught in the middle
Between wanting you back
And just letting you stray
This is not a love song
It's an Epitaph for Trust
in us
These mornings when I'm waking
And I still haven't quite come to
I come out of a dream holding the covers
Like I'm still clinging on to you
Somewhere in it all
There's some peace
That's waiting to be made
Because
This is not a love song
It's an Epitaph for Trust
in us
And I should know better
Than to try to just pin this thing on you
I could have stood up better for us
You're not in this alone
I let us down, too
This is not a love song
It's an Epitaph for Trust
in us
No this
is not a love song, no
It's an Epitaph for Trust
in us
An Epitaph for Trust
in us
Crazy Mae sits in the attic
comparing Dylan to Rimbaud
I'm on the lawn overlooking the flowers
that haven't already withered and gone away
And it's early autumn
In the middle of the day
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason to live
Don't put a bullet in your brain
And don't jump any cliffs
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason
There's a reason to live
But no one's really sure what it is
Crazy me, I'm her fool for love
Or to say the least her loving fool
as the clouds gather round and the sky starts spilling on the lawn
we play house in the tool shed
And it's early autumn
In the middle of the day
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason to live
Don't put a bullet in your brain
And don't jump any cliffs
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason
There's a reason to live
But no one knows what it is
I look at her in wonder and I say
"What's this cause you talk about?"
She says
"Never you mind, cause you will know in due time"
in due time
Crazy Mae, Crazy Mae
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason to live
Don't put a bullet in your brain
And don't jump any cliffs
Crazy Mae she says that
There's a reason, there's a reason
There's a reason to live
But no one knows what it is
Crazy Mae, Crazy Mae
So your plane got grounded by the snowstorm
So you've got to stay on for another day
Well, it's all right
All I can say is it's all right
Lately you have been so full of words
I hardly listen anymore, because baby it hurts
To hear you rambling
Because I'm making you uneasy
Well, you know how they say
A lie is a lie
That a lie is a lie
And it stays a lie
Stays a lie, stays a lie
You can't unlie your lies
The way Othello had to pay because he got framed
The way that Jesus had to pay for all of our shame
Well, it appalls me
All I can say is it appalls me
The way I'm still with you because I am too weak to leave
The way I eavesdrop on your calls and listen like a thief
Well it's not all right
So far from all right you can't see it from here
Well, you know how they say
A lie is a lie
That a lie is a lie
And it stays a lie
Stays a lie, stays a lie
You can't unlie your lies
Can't unlie your lies
Unlie your lies, unlie your lies
No you can't unlie your lies
Unlie your lies, unlie your lies
No you can't unlie your lies
Can't unlie your lies
Unlie Your Lies
Won't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Fall out of love with you
Oh, tell me why
Why won't you make me fall
If you won't be with me
If you won't be with me
I just don't see a future
If you won't be with me
Why don't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Out of love with you, can it be so hard to do
Falling out of love
Simple song after all
Still you don't make me fall
Are we clinging too tight to a lie
Oh, tell me why, why won't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Out of love with you, can it be so hard to do
Falling out of love -
If this is the end
If this really is the end
Then it ends like this, in cold silence
If this, if this really is the end
Then why don't you make me -
Why won't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Why don't you make me fall
Why don't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Why won't you make me fall
Out of love with you, could it be so hard to do
Falling out of love, until I'm black and blue
Falling out of love, can it be so hard to do
Falling out of love
Falling out of love with you
Falling out of love
Can it be so hard to do
Falling out of love with you
I kid myself
That you'll be back some day
And when I wake up
Things will all be the same
I'm the king of wishful thinking
But ever since I gave up drinking
You're the lie I go to sleep to
You're the lie I go to sleep to
sha-na-na-na-na
I keep your picture
beside the bed as usual
you control who you hate
but you don't choose who you love
See you standing in the doorway winking
I take your hand again without thinking
You're the lie I go to sleep to
You're the lie I go to sleep to
Yeah
I'm a mess, I confess
So heavenly possessed
You're the lie I go to sleep to
You're the lie
You're the lie I go to sleep to
You're the lie I go to sleep to
sha-na-na-na-na
She'll get used to anything
Just given time enough
Took a while getting used to the wedding ring
But then it was never coming off
Now she's getting used to a bigger world
Too much space in the house
40 years down the line "boy meets girl"
Turns in to "wife loses spouse"
And that empty chair, empty chair
She'll turn to look but he's not there
Wrapped up in the blues trying to get used
To that empty chair, empty chair
That empty chair, empty chair
Loss is a force to be reckoned with
You just can't replace a soul
Loss will leave you drifting aimlessly
With no desires or goals
Now she's getting used to a bigger world
Getting used to time standing still
And if losing him didn't yet mark her face
Then missing him will
And that empty chair, empty chair
She'll turn to look but he's not there
Wrapped up in the blues trying to get used
To that empty chair, empty chair
That empty chair, empty chair
When your life feels like some kind of curse
And your every day makes it all a little worse
And you need him to take you out of the rain
But there's just no helping it you're stuck with the pain
And that empty chair, empty chair
She'll turn to look but he's not there
Wrapped up in the blues trying to get used
To that empty chair, empty chair
That empty chair, empty chair
I've been up since you went to bed, time is losing track
I'm afraid I've crossed the line, and I can't get back
I can tell there's trouble ahead, but I don't know when
I can tell there's trouble around the bend
Oh, and all this worry
Has got me caught up in a hurry
Oh, and I can't hardly wait
It's too late, for all I need to say
It's too late, it's too late, it's too late to walk away
It's too late, to leave this all to fate
It's too late, it's too late, it's a little more than I can take
It's been a long, long, long, long, long day
Everytime I go to hold you, I put you on hold
Like I'm trying to tell you a story, that can't be told
Feels like I'm moving in circles, and I can't get there
Going 'round and 'round, getting nowhere
Oh, and all this worry
Has got me caught up in a hurry
Oh, and I can't carry all this weight
It's too late, for all I need to say
It's too late, it's too late, it's too late to walk away
It's too late, to leave this all to fate
It's too late, it's too late, it's a little more than I can take
It's been a long, long, long, long, long day
been a long day
It's too late, for all I need to say
It's too late, it's too late, it's too late to walk away
It's too late, to leave this all to fate
It's too late, it's too late, it's a little more than I can take
It's been a long, long, long, long, long day
been a long day
Louisa says it takes half an inch to trigger
the hammer on a gun
In other words half an inch is the difference between
dying and living on
Sweet Louisa she talks just like she walks
and her curves are getting on my nerves
In the mornings she makes pancakes in the nude
and wakes me up with kisses on my cheek
And it's keeping me on edge, baby
That's keeping me alive, honey
Everyday the same questions
Need different replies, baby
Keeping me on edge
Louisa says we ought to fill up the car with cigarettes
and sandwiches and super unleaded
Honey, all the great visionary men
never knew where they were headed
We could pop in a tape of Bob Dylan singing
that "when you think you've lost everything
You find out you can always lose a little more",
ain't it funny how those lines cut right to the core?
And it's keeping me on edge, baby
That's keeping me alive, honey
Everyday the same questions
Need different replies, baby
Keeping me on edge
There's no limit and no feeling timid
when you're on the road
The road is home to the rambling, the gambling
the life style sampling
Mortal souls like you and me
The trademark eating, the pavement beating
two times cheating, talk is cheap-in'
Rendezvous meeting mortal souls
Mortal souls like you and me
And it's keeping me on edge, baby
That's keeping me alive, honey
Everyday the same questions
Need different replies, baby
Keeping me on edge
You break every promise
You're not being honest to me
Way too many hurdles
You're talking in circles, again
Every time you're changing up the subject
Even God could not predict your mood
And I'm killing time, like time is my worst enemy
Tell me why I'm doing this
I won't lie, I expected more
Love's overrated
I know I'm rough around the edges
But as I come to my senses the perspective has changed
Looking from here you can seem so massive
I don't know how I became so passive, I can't stay that way
Is everything I'm telling you for nothing
You don't seem to hear a single word I say
And I'm killing time, like time is my worst enemy
Tell me why I'm doing this
I won't lie, I expected more
Love's overrated
We had our time, we overstayed it
It's the end of the line, baby don't I hate it
If this is love - then Love's overrated
Overrated baby, tell me why I'm doing this
And I'm killing time, like time is my worst enemy
tell me why I'm doing this
I won't lie, I expected more
Love's overrated
Overrated
It's overrated, baby
Love's overrated
