Hoybye feat. Monsdrum: SONGTRONICA

The singer/songwriter approach meets electronica – “soulful vocals, meaningful lyrics and tantalizing production.”

In 2011 Martin Hoybye teamed up with David Mondrup a.k.a. Monsdrum to create a demilitarized zone between songwriting and electronica.

Mondrup/Monsdrum is a classically trained pianist gone electronica-artist and advocate for all things collaborative and for seeking new ways in which music can be made, and be made to impact us and challenge what ‘we expect’ from music.

There is a separate blog detailing the co-production of this record here, which also offers lyrics and streaming links:

Come here we’ve got to sit down and talk this over
Been a while since we had a one on one
There were days we rolled in clover
Has our kingdom of love been overthrown

We’ve walked the perilous road of silence
Blind guessing what was on each other’s minds
You’d think by now we’d learned our lessons
Slow learners we’ve been talking our (time)

Time has taught us every reason why
Here is now but time knows how to fly
Away from love, always escaping
Just

Come here I only just want to hold you
Come clear and for once we’ll put ourselves first
No-more keeping score of old I owe yous
Standing by the well, no need to thirst

Time has taught us every reason why
Here is now but time knows how to fly
Away from love, always escaping

Just once turn off the TV and turn on you and me

Time has taught us every reason why
Here is now but time knows how to fly
Away from love, always escaping love
Away from love, always escaping
Just

The concrete smells funny in the summer rain
The pigeons are having a ball
I just took a shower and now I’m drenched again
No use at all

I’ve got nine lonely digits on the back of a calling card
Put down in red felt tip pen
I’ve called her so many times I wound up finally losing count
Now she’s fading away

All just rib and clay
Floating away
While I’m downing Earl Gray
And on the radio is the lonely sound
of static drowning our song

They’re so used to seeing me in here they must start to think I’m furniture
Or just a tear in the wall-papered wall
One of these days they’ll lock up and leave me sitting here
With the felt pen and the note pad for chain and ball

As the night blacks out the day
It all drifts away
As I’m downing Earl Gray
And on the radio is the lonely sound
of static drowning our song

As the night blacks out the day
It all drifts away
While I’m pounding Earl Gray
And on the radio is the lonely sound
While on the radio is the lonely sound
While on the radio is the lonely sound
of static drowning our song
static drowning our song

At the foot of the hill lives simple Will
In a house made of straw and old drift wood
He keeps to himself, pictures on the shelf
of times gone and of a long lost childhood

And one of his love, his only true love
Who took off to go and live in the big city
Now he haunts their small town at night
Like a shadow in the moonlight
Only a name on his breath
In his pain and pity

Anna Belle, Anna Belle
One summer in heaven, six years in hell
Anna Belle

Will mowes the lawn and with every year gone
He has tended every garden in the parish
And if you can’t pay he’ll sort you out anyway
As if the flowers bring near that lost one he so cherished

That one long lost love, that only true love
Who took off to go and live in the big city
Now he haunts her past steps at night
Bare bones in the moonlight
Only a name whispered on
The precious, the pretty

Anna Belle, Anna Belle
One summer in heaven, six years in hell
Anna Belle

Anna Belle
One summer in heaven, six years in hell
Anna Belle

At night he sometimes goes
Anna Belle

At the foot of the hill lives simple Will
In a house made of straw and old drift wood

I went down to the ocean to cry
For my baby there
Taking all our lost love in
With every breath of air
I raised my hands towards the sky
and spilled my gut to the mud
spent the entire night on my hands and knees
just Talking To God

I saw the image of a woman
reflected on the surface of the sea
she had a monkey on her back
and a baby boy on her knee
the war took everything she had
didn’t leave her with a lot
just a news channel camera in her face
while she was Talking To God

And I felt an instant bolt of pain
Searching through my every vein
My skin going from freezing cold to hot
Spend your time trying to understand
Until you find out there’s no master plan
And nothing’s ever going to hit the spot
except Talking To God

Now I’m praying for redemption
And for the good Lord to restore this Job
For the broken hearted people in the world
To regain hope
I’m a man of constant sorrow
Got written across my heart ’she loves me not’
And there’s nothing worse than a lover’s curse
You plain forget to talk to God

I’m looking for a grain of truth
Some little bit of sense to hold on to
Still wondering why all the good guys wind up shot
So if you’re looking for who’s got the key
The answer to why your pain must be
All the cuddle words your mom and dad forgot
Your skin going from freezing cold to hot
And nothing ever seems to hit the spot
Maybe you just forgot
To be Talking To God …

I went down to the ocean to cry
For my baby there

I don’t mind jumping on an old cliché
all hearts break the same old way
it seems
You go to look for what made you sing
and you find that you can only find the damn’ thing
in your dreams

Sorry is a lonesome word
still it can’t begin to describe the hurt
you feel
You’ve slaved to work up a master plan
but the grip you can get with your own bare hands
ain’t real

cause
The Last Thing The World Needs
is another broken heart
and she broke this one
still she broke this one
The Last Thing The World Needs
is another love song
and you wrote this one
still you wrote this one

About how it feels to be
The Last Thing The World Needs

It’s one day at a time, you know the drill
You’ve been here before, whether you won’t or will
it takes time
A few weeks down the line you may sleep at night
six months gone maybe turn out the light
and not feel like crying

that
The Last Thing The World Needs
is another broken heart
and she broke this one
but she broke this one
The Last Thing The World Needs
is another love song
and you wrote this one
and so you wrote this one

About how it feels to be
The Last Thing The World Needs

I wish I could rewind our love
and freeze the part
when we first fell in love
and you wanted me
like I want you know

The Last Thing The World Needs
is another broken heart
still you broke this one
but you broke this one
The Last Thing The World Needs
is another love song
and so I wrote this one
so I wrote this one

About how it feels to be
The Last Thing The World Needs

The Last Thing The World Needs

It’s the longest night of the year
And the sun has just gone down
And if you were here
I’d hold you now, I’d hold you now

It’s the longest night of the year
And I’m thinking of you
In your favorite summer dress
And your eyes of blue, too blue

Missing you is easy
I just have to hear your name
Missing you is easy
I forget, then it starts again

It’s the longest night of the year
Why won’t the sun come up
I saw you in my dreams
But it’s not enough, it’s never enough

Missing you is easy
I just have to hear your name
Missing you is easy
I forget, then it starts again

It’s the longest night of the year
And tomorrow won’t come around
And if you were here
Would I hold you now, God I’d hold you now

I’d hold you now

I kid myself
That you’ll be back some day
And when I wake up
Things will all be the same

I’m the king of wishful thinking
But ever since I gave up drinking

You’re the lie I go to sleep to
You’re the lie I go to sleep to
sha-na-na-na-na

I keep your picture
beside the bed as usual
you control who you hate
but you don’t choose who you love

See you standing in the doorway winking
I take your hand again without thinking

You’re the lie I go to sleep to
You’re the lie I go to sleep to
sha-na-na-na-na

I confess, I’m a mess
So heavenly obsessed

You’re the lie I go to sleep
You’re the lie
You’re the lie I go to sleep
You’re the lie
I go to sleep to
sha-na-na-na-na

When we see eye to eye
you don’t see me at all
it’s like you’re trying to make out someone else
behind me on the wall

I say; ‘is there something wrong?’
you lie, and blame it on the fall
you say your mood dips when autumn comes along
cuz’ the summer went south and you missed the call

but I don’t buy that
no, I don’t buy that

Autumn will come around
Red, yellow, purple, brown
This year the soundtrack is the lonely sound
Of you and me falling to the ground
to the ground
That is the lonely sound
Of autumn coming around

You say you will be all right
just a few days on your own
as if getting me out of your sight
will make you feel less alone

but I don’t buy that
no, I don’t buy that

Autumn will come around
Red, yellow, purple, brown
This year the soundtrack is the lonely sound
Of you and me falling to the ground
to the ground
to the ground
to the ground

It comes as no surprise
I’m at a loss for words
Like pearls on a string my alibis
strung out for the world to see

I’ve learned you’ve got to let someone in
to let yourself out
that reaching out is also reaching in
to get a grip of what it’s all about

Like a Sweet Mellowdy
Hum by you, hum by me
It’s a Sweet Mellowdy
Come on darling
Save the last dance for me

I’ve been taught things
I didn’t think I needed to know
n’ those lessons may prove
to be the ones that matter most

For letting me get a glimpse
For letting me let my guards down
I’m thankful forever thankful
for this thing we’ve found

It’s a Sweet Mellowdy
Hum by you, hum by me
A Sweet Mellowdy
Come on darling
Save the last dance for me

Oh, now I don’t even know why
We became friends
Oh, now I can’t figure out how
I’ll live again
Tell me you’ll bear me in mind
If we lose touch remember
you once meant the world in this world of mine
Just you and me baby, and a

Sweet Mellowdy
Hum by you, hum by me
A Sweet Mellowdy
Come on darling
Come on darling
Save the last dance for me

Doesn’t matter, baby
Just lay back down
Let me sit here for a while
Without a sound

I’m losing it
I was never choosing this

I’m just one man with too much on my hands
I need three days just for catching up, and
Five is my lucky number
So if yours is still one, then
Let’s put Six on Red tonight

Don’t cry baby
Go back to sleep
There’s really nothing you can do
To help me

I just need to sit here on my own
This stuff I need to work out on my own

I’m just one man with too much on my hands
I need three days just for catching up, and
Five is my lucky number
So if yours is still one, then
Let’s put Six on Red tonight

There’s so much I need to figure out
And I know you just want to help but baby, it’s all right
It’s hard to admit I can’t take on the whole world all of the time
But I’m learning and I’m yearning
To get back to some burning with you
Like we used to do

Doesn’t matter baby
I’m just talking in my sleep
Turn around and close your eyes
Don’t mind me
